From an early age it was clear that Federer had a talent for the game. At the age of eight he became a part of the Basel junior program. He proved this by winning Wimbledon junior singles, double titles, the Orange bowl (in Florida), and earning the ITF’s 1 world ranking.
His huge accomplishment that year was representing Switzerland at the Olympics. Though he did not win any medals it was here where he met Miroslava Vavrinec who was part of the Swiss woman’s team. All of these sucess led to the press coinging the “Federer Express” in their headlines. With this newfound glory Roger went on to win his first two ATP doubles titles. He ended off the seasson ranked 13 in singles.
